Our Story
Bald Hill estate is a boutique family-owned and operated vineyard, producing a variety of unique cool climate wines.
Established in 1995, Bald Hill Estate is located in the heart of the Macedon Ranges, 5km East of the Kyneton township in a pristine valley overlooked by the local landmark of Bald Hill.
Hand pruned and picked, the 1,000 vine property is estate grown at an elevation of 550 metres. The naturally cool climate creates slow ripening grapes, with the vintage around late April, producing elegant medium-bodied wines with a full length of flavour.
The natural earth elements of the area produce a distinguishing feature of white pepper, and the cool climate helps retain the delicate flavours, while still producing the bold.
Bald Hill Estate’s wines are bright and lively past 10 years, and the annual production is a boutique size of around 150 cases. Our signature range includes Pétillant, a celebratory sparkling blend of our premium red varieties, Lagrein, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Riesling.
James and Odette’s passion for wine grew from many conversations, and wines, with family and friends. Wine was always part of the dining experience in the Leach household, as was the regular discussions of wine regions and the latest discovery.
Eager to learn, James and Odette started out bottling wine with produce from Milawa and the King Valley. Enjoying discussions about the technicalities of wine with leading wine makers in the Macedon Ranges, James decided to study a vignerons course. James and Odette were then gifted Chardonnay vines from a fellow wine enthusiast, which they decided to plant and so was the beginning of Bald Hill Estate.
As James and Odette’s interest grew, the kids' bike tracks were redirected as more rows of vines were introduced. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon were planted next, followed by Riesling and Lagrein to become Bald Hill Estate as we know it today.
